According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS ordered eight episodes of "Jingles" before the writers strike. Preproduction and casting have already begun.
The trade paper says that "Jingles" is an hour-long competition show in which contestants have to write and perform original advertising tunes for a variety of products with viewers selecting the best jingle each week. It's expected that "Jingles" would be able to take the already-aggressive product placement strategy Burnett has pioneered on "Survivor" and "The Apprentice" to the next level.
"Survivor" and "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader" continue to be reliable hits for Burnett, while a celebrity installment gave new life to his "Apprentice" franchise. He's had less success with the recent NBC ventures "My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad" and "Amne$ia," while last summer's "Pirate Master" and "On the Lot" were both ratings duds.
An official announcement on "Jingles," to be produced with David Hurwitz and Paul Cockerill, is expected in the next couple weeks.
