Russell Brand is coming to Comedy Central.
The British comic, who was the breakout star of the spring hit "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" will star in his own hour-long comedy special on Comedy Central. Set to air in 2009, the special will film in New York City in November and will feature an assortment of guests.
"Russell Brand's comedy is a perfect match for our audience. He's a fresh new face with a rock-star aura and a unique and unpredictable act that pushes the envelope of comedy," states Elizabeth Porter, Comedy Central's senior vice president for specials and talent. "American audiences who have been exposed to Russell through 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' and the VMAs have seen just the tip of the iceberg."
The Comedy Central press release describes Brand's performance as host of the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards as "hugely successful" and "no-holds barred," though most critics were far harsher in their assessments. Brand's performance as pretentious rocker Aldous Snow in "Sarah Marshall" had a far more positive reception.
The Snow character may return in another Judd Apatow-produced comedy, titled "Get Him to the Greek." In addition, Brand will be seen this winter in the Adam Sandler comedy "Bedtime Stories."
"Comedy Central is the home of 'South Park,' 'The Daily Show,' and 'The Sarah Silverman Program,'" Brand adds. "I am thrilled to have such esteemed neighbors -- particularly Sarah whom I shall be constantly troubling for cups of sugar and milk, breast milk."
Brand will executive produce the special along with Jesse Ignjatovic of Den of Thieves. The pair previously worked together on the VMAs.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
