Fresh off a starring role in the fourth "Rambo" movie, Julie Benz is joining another aging franchise, landing a lead in "Saw V."
According to the industry trades, David Hackl, production designer on the last three "Saw" films, is directing the new film, which will start shooting on March 17 and will slash its way into theaters on October 24.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Benz will play an elegant and proper Brit who becomes a pawn in Jigsaw's (Tobin Bell) latest sadistic game.
Released last October, "Saw IV" earned only 63 million, the franchise's lowest grossing entry since the original. Of course, with a bargain baseman budget and an addition $70-plus million overseas, "Saw IV" was still wildly popular for Lionsgate.
In addition to her recent turn in "Rambo," Benz is also one of the stars of Lionsgate's "Punisher" reboot, titled "Punisher: War Zone." She's best known to small screen fans as Rita on "Dexter" and Darla from both "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel."
