Warren Township students transported to hospital after bus' window shatters

Approximately 44 Brookview Elementary School students were taken to IU Methodist Hospital Wednesday morning after their bus’ window shattered.  

Indianapolis EMS responded to a report of a minor motor vehicle accident involving a Warren Township bus near 25th Street and German Church around 8:33 a.m.  

Officials said the bus was headed eastbound on a narrow section of 25th Street when the right mirror struck a telephone pole.  The mirror then struck one of the side windows, shattering the glass.

Five patients sustained minor cuts and scrapes and were transported to IU Methodist Hospital on an ambulance.

Emergency crews evaluated 49 people at the scene and 44 of them were taken to IU Methodist Hospital for evaluation as a precautionary measure.  Another bus transported the students to the hospital. The bus arrived to the hospital around 9:49 a.m.

IU Methodist Hospital said they began releasing students around 11:28 a.m.  All the students taken to the hospital will be released Wednesday.

Parents of the students were notified.  

No traffic citations were issued to the bus driver.
