Speedway police investigate fatal shooting at gas station

One man is dead after a shooting at a west side gas station.

Speedway police responded to the Speedway Gas Station at 10th Street and Lynhurst Drive around 3:30 a.m. Friday.

Police said someone shot a gun at two men inside a truck that was parked near a gas pump.

The passenger, identified as 30-year-old Tommy Thompson was struck by gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

The driver of the truck was reported to be uninjured.

Police are speaking with him and other witnesses, as well as looking at surveillance video to find out what may have caused the shooting.

At this point, officers said Thompson was at Tremors Nightclub Thursday night, and this shooting may have been the result of an incident at that nightclub.

Officers are looking for a vehicle of interest, a large older model "jacked-up" Olds '88-type vehicle.
Police said there was one person in the back seat and one person in the driver's seat.

The Marion County Coroner's Office and crime scene investigators are assisting Speedway police.

If you know anything about the shooting, call CrimeStoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
