The Indiana Pacers believed they needed a back-up center for Roy Hibbert. On Wednesday night, they made sure they went out and got one.
DraftExpress.com reported Wednesday night that the Mavericks agreed to a trade with the Pacers to send point guard Darren Collison and swingman Dahntay Jones to the team in a sign-and-trade for Ian Mahinmi.
Collison had one year left on his contract with the Pacers at $2.3 million dollars, and started the majority of the season before losing his starting role to George Hill. Collison averaged 10.4 points per game and 4.8 assists, but made a huge impact for Indiana off the bench in the playoffs, including the 16 point performance in the first-round clinching victory over the Orlando Magic.
Dahntay Jones, who averaged 5.3 points and 16.2 minutes per game off the bench for the Pacers was included in the trade as well. Jones is entering the last year of his contract at $2.9 million.
Ian Mahinmi, the Pacers acquisition in the trade, played in 61 games for the Dallas Mavericks in the 2012 season. He averaged 18.7 minutes per game along with 5.8 points and 4.7 rebounds, and stands at 6'11 and 230 pounds.
