The PeyBack Foundation would like to announce the annual PeyBack Classic will be held on Friday, August 17th at Lucas Oil Stadium. The first game of the double header starts at 6:00 pm with Cardinal Ritter vs. Heritage Christian followed by game two with Merrillville vs. Warren Central.
Peyton Manning launched the PeyBack Classic in 2000 and to date over 35 Indiana high schools have participated in the event, allowing hundreds of student athletes the opportunity to play on an NFL sanctioned field. "We are excited to continue the tradition of the PeyBack Classic and welcome three out of the four teams as new members to our PeyBack Classic event and welcome back returning past Classic participant, Warren Central. We are proud to have provided student athletes from more than 35 schools across the state of Indiana the opportunity to play a game in Lucas Oil Stadium," said Peyton Manning, PeyBack Foundation President.
"We are also pleased to announce the third PeyBack Foundation scholarship recipient, Jeffrey Zhao, a deserving student athlete from Cathedral High School. The intent of this $10,000 scholarship through the PeyBack Foundation is to help further higher education and expand opportunities for growth for a deserving student athlete participant of the Classic each year."
The PeyBack Foundation, along with its official supporters will be responsible for all expenses of the PeyBack Classic event including the rental of Lucas Oil Stadium. Sport Graphics is a game night supporter and the Foundation serves as the event organizer. Advanced tickets for the event will be available at the high schools playing in the PeyBack Classic in mid-July. Each school will benefit from the tickets they sell.
The PeyBack Foundation also announces it has awarded their annual scholarship to a student athlete who participated in the 2011 PeyBack Classic. The 2012 scholarship recipient is Jeffrey Zhao from Cathedral High School. Jeff plans on attending the Indiana University in the fall. He played varsity football for Cathedral, was a member of the National Honor Society and serves as a volunteer for numerous community organizations.
Last year's scholarship recipient, Jacob Slusher from Greensburg and is finishing up his freshman year at University of Indianapolis and the first recipient, Brandon Washington, from Arlington High School, is completing his sophomore year at Indiana University.
Student from the schools that participate in the 2012 PeyBack Classic may apply through their school athletic department for this $10,000 per year PeyBack Foundation scholarship. Football players, trainers and cheerleaders are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
The selected scholarship recipient will receive a grant to attend a college or university of their choice. Criteria for the scholarship application includes, must be a graduating senior who participated in the 2012 PeyBack Classic, positive sportsmanship behavior displayed throughout their high school career, academics, financial need, community involvement/philanthropy and leadership. Applications will be available in January 2013.
Manning established the PeyBack Foundation in 1999 to help disadvantaged youth build a successful future for themselves and it accomplishes its mission through helping established community-based programs provide fundamental leadership and growth opportunities for kids.
