Connecticut Music Awards 2013: BEST REGGAE

Mystic Bowie

When you're talking about reggae in Fairfield County, the first name that always comes up is Mystic Bowie. He was a member of the Tom Tom Club with Chris and Tina from the Talking Heads. He's buds with reggae king Toots Hibbert. And his uplifting, cathartic shows exemplify everything reggae should be about. Mystic spent the past two and a half months on tour. "We got back and did two weeks ago the Fairfield Theatre and this past Saturday we were at Bradford's in Sono," he says. "It was two packed shows. People were waiting for us to get home. The shows were really well supported." In the near future, Bowie will be releasing a club remix of his song "Never Kiss and Tell," as well as a cover of an unlikely tune. "The Annie Minogue Band contacted me and said they wanted to do a reggae version of Paul McCartney's song 'Jet' and they wanted me to sing it. And I did. And it came out really well, and we shot a music video for it." The video, despite the song not yet being release, has already won Best Music Video at the Amsterdam Film Festival. —Mike Sembos
