Pennsylvania Disaster-Aid Registration Deadline Extended to December 14

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended the registration deadline for anyone who suffered damage from Hurricane Irene and/or Tropical Storm Lee to December 14.

"We strongly encourage homeowners, renters, and business owners in Dauphin County who have flood-damaged properties to apply for federal aid before December 14," said Dauphin County Commissioner Mike Pries, who has oversight of the county's Emergency Management Agency. "FEMA has extended the registration deadline to ensure that everyone who needs to apply for assistance has the opportunity to do so."

Disaster assistance to individuals could include grants to help pay for temporary housing needs, essential home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses not covered by insurance or other sources. Low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) are also available for homeowners, renters and business owners to repair or replace real or personal property.

"We encourage residents and business owners who have not yet completed a disaster assistance application to visit your local Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) for one-on-one assistance," said Dauphin County Commissioner Jeff Haste. "FEMA has established a DRC on the second floor of the Harrisburg Mall, 3501 Paxton Street in Harrisburg, to accept applications for assistance and to answer questions."

Information to have ready when registering with FEMA includes the address of the damaged property, names of members of the household, a general description of the damage, the Social Security number of any family member living in the home, the extent of insurance coverage and certain other information needed to expedite the process.

Four ways to apply for aid with FEMA are:

1. Call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Operators assist callers seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Help is available in most languages. If you have a speech disability or hearing loss and use a TTY, call 1-800-462-7585.2. Register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.3. Register using a tablet or smartphone by visiting m.fema.gov.4. If you use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS), call 1-800-621-3362.

If you have a disability and need help registering, contact FEMA at 1-800-621-3362 and ask for assistance.Applications for low-interest disaster loans are available from the SBA's Disaster Assistance Customer Service Center by calling (800) 659-2955, emailing disastercustomerservice@sba.gov, or visiting SBA's Web site at www.sba.gov. Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals may call (800) 877-8339.

"Working together with our state and federal counterparts, our goal is to make sure the areas that were impacted by flooding will be considered for disaster assistance," said Dauphin County Commissioner George P. Hartwick, III.
