Two teens were killed after a tragic fall into a cesspool Wednesday night, police said.
According to authorities, the teens were hanging out near a cesspool in Farmingville when they decided to lift the concrete cover, exposing the 16-foot deep cesspool.
One teen, identified by officials as 16-year-old Eduardo Vanegas-Fuentes lost his balance and fell. His friend, 19-year-old Edgar Calderon-Castro attempted to save him, but failed and fell in shortly after.
A third teen, Samuel Suarez, 16, witnessed the incident and ran for help.
Both teens lost consciousness after a short time of being in the cesspool, authorities said.
Responding officers used a 12-foot pole to save one victim while a roof ladder was used to rescue the other teen.
Both teens were transported to Stony Brook Medical Center, where Vanegas-Fuentes later passed away Thursday morning. Calderon-Castro who was still clinging to life late Thursday morning, succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
