"I was kicked by Manolo Blahnik!" teased Parsons prof Tom Handley as he hobbled on crutches to congratulate former star pupil Tanya Taylor at her Spring/Summer 2013 presentation at the MoMA last night.
Although FASHION WEEK officially starts, Thursday September 6th, with the increase of new designers every season the WEEK is growing hosting independent shows all over the city well before and after the original 7 day run.
Handley, also a Marketing and Social Media Consultant had this to say about Ms. Taylor: "From the very beginning I could tell she was going to be successful - she gets 'it'. In a room full of students she stood out completely, I'm so proud."
The 26 year old Taylor started her signature label after doing time at Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen's Elizabeth & James collection. Since launching last season Taylor has already won fans like Rashida Jones, Kat Deely and DJ Chelsea Leyland.
Tanya Taylor's look for Spring/Summer 2013? "This is 1962 Barbados," she explains. To be specific "The opening of The Sandy Lane Hotel."
Luckily, the lovely shades of coral that have dominated the past two summers looks like they're sticking around for a third and Taylor uses it to great effect, highlighting a simple palette of navy, white and poppy florals. The collection is body conscious with cut away panels and an abundance of midriff exposing tops but it's playful, not gratuitous. Perfect for the woman who "is down to earth and ready to have fun".
