Madoff's Accountant Found Dead At Palm Beach Home

Bernard Madoff's associate, Jeffry[sic] Picower, was found dead Sunday at the bottom of the swimming pool at his home. Local authorities are now trying to find out what happened.

Madoff and the Florida philanthropist had a decades-long friendship. Picower, 67, was also the former New York lawyer and accountant alleged to have made billions off Madoff's big-time swindle.

Authorities say Picower's wife found the body, then workers tried to revive him, but couldn't.

According to prosecutors, Picower profited more than anyone else from Madoff's, ill-gotten gains over the span of their 30-year personal and professional association. So, he should've spotted the signs of fraud -- especially since he was a sophisticated investor in his own right. His accounts were "riddled with blatant and obvious fraud," they said.
