An overturned box truck in has shut down all four lanes of the southbound side of Interstate-684 early Friday, bringing traffic to a standstill for miles.
The accident happened at about 6:30 a.m. near Exit 2 of the highway in Purchase. Area police and emergency crews responded to the scene as a trail of debris and oil littered that area of the interstate.
Just before 8:15 a.m., the truck was dragged toward the median to reopen the right lane to traffic.
Traffic is backed up for about five to six miles on Interstate-684's southbound side leading up to the vehicle.
Drivers are urged to use alternate routes, such as the Taconic Parkway and Interstate-95, for their Friday morning commute.
The cause of the accidnet is under investigation and there are no reports of injuries.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
