A double tractor-trailer and a gas tanker crashed on the NJ Turnpike at about 6 a.m., causing officials to shut down the northbound truck lanes between Exit 8A and Exit 9.
Firefighters were quick to respond to the scene and extinguished the flames within an hour. The scene, however, was very much active past noon.
Drivers are urged to avoid the NJ Turnpike and use Routes 1 and 130 as alternate routes.
The crash prompted backups along the New Jersey Turnpike for about three to four miles.
