Mom Arrested After Abandoning Children At Community Pool

A Hicksville mother was arrested on four counts of endangering the welfare of a child after police said she abandoned her four children at a community pool Thursday.

According to Nassau County police, 44-year-old Emilia Lanzetta brought her children, aged 6, 7, 9, and 11, to a Town of Oyster Bay pool in Bethpage and left them unattended for the entire duration of the day.

At around 6:45 p.m., pool officials who grew concerned for the unattended children, called police.

While authorities attempted to locate Lanzetta, the abandoned children were taken to the 8th Precinct where Child Protective Services interviewed the minors. The children were later released into the custody of their father, police said.

Lanzetta, who was remains in police custody Friday, is scheduled for arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead.

According to pool officials, this was not the first time Lanzetta has abandoned her children at the community pool. The youngsters have been seen being unattended on many occasions during the summer, officials said.
