A Morris County jury has convicted a former church custodian of murder for the brutal stabbing of a beloved priest.
Following a six-week trial, Jose Feliciano was found guilty of murder and felony murder in the killing of Rev. Edward Hinds in October 2009.
According to authorities, Feliciano stabbed Hinds 44 times inside the St. Patrick Church rectory in Chatham after the custodian was fired.
Feliciano never denied killing Hinds but insisted the stabbing was provoked and contended. During his testimony, Feliciano said Hinds was blackmailing him for several years where he forced to him to perform sex acts in exchange for withholding criminal charges the custodian faced involving a child.
Feliciano who will be sentenced next month, faces 30 years to life on each conviction.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
