Christmas came a little early for a Staten Island elementary school chorus, after an A-list actress paid a surprise visit Thursday, bringing with her a treat of bombshell proportions.
Oscar nominee Anne Hathaway was greeted with loud screams and applause as she walked into the PS 22 auditorium Thursday night, following a school Holiday performance.
Hathaway, who is scheduled to co-host the 83rd annual Academy Awards in a few weeks with fellow nominee James Franco, revealed to students that they will be joining her on stage to perform at the annual awards show.
"I'm here to officially invite you guys," Hathaway said before an eruption of screams and emotion filled the room at the famed elementary school.
"I have been watching the PS 22 choir on YouTube for about two years now, and you guys have brought such joy to my heart," the actress told excited students.
The Graniteville students will be flown to Hollywood on Feb 27 where they will get the chance to not only perform on the Oscar telecast but also walk the red carpet.
Both hosts, Hathaway and Franco, have been nominated for their lead roles in "Love & Other Drugs" and "127 Hours" respectively.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
