A 35-year-old man moving into his new home fell down an elevator shaft to his death Monday night, police said.
Just before midnight police responded to the lobby of 1749 Grand Concourse and were met by the victim's wife who told police that she was carrying a mattress into a freight elevator with her husband Joseph Ryan.
The woman claims after the elevator door opened up, without looking, her husband backed into the elevator, which was not there, and fell down the shaft.
The victim was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to police.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
