90-Year-Old Man Charged with Wife's Murder

A 90-year-old man has been charged with murdering his 89-year-old wife inside their home located in a retirement community in Amherst.

Authorities say Virginia Bunz's body was found around 10:25 a.m. Sunday by a relative, who alerted authorities. John Bunz was found in the apartment with self-inflicted wounds and was taken to a hospital, police said.

Amherst Assistant Police Chief Timothy Green said the murder was likely sparked by a domestic dispute.

Bunz was arraigned at the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo late Sunday on a charge of second-degree murder and has been moved to jail. A not-guilty plea has been entered on John's behalf during Sunday's arraignment. He is being held without bail.

John and Virgina Bunz reportedly celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on April 4, 2007.
