Cops Investigating After Brooklyn Discount Store Owner Found Dead

Brooklyn detectives are investigating the suspicious death of a Brooklyn shop owner found in his discount store. Detectives were still on the scene at 1877 86th St. in Bensonhurst Friday afternoon, nearly a day after the body was discovered.

Cops say the owner of the "Amazing 99 cent and Up Deal Store" was found just before 9 p.m. Thursday on the floor inside the store by two customers. The shopkeeper, 59-year-old Issac Kadare was bleeding from the head when EMS arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene and police consider his death suspicious.

The case has since been ruled a homicide, PIX 11 News has learned.

Kadare's upstairs tenant Ray Lopez told PIX11 News" I think it's a tragedy. I think people are not valuing life and it's scary." Lopez went on to say ," It seems to be getting a lot worse, a lot quicker especially in Brooklyn." Lopez says the area has changed for the worse.

As investigators dusted the building for fingerprints and carried out bags of evidence Lopez' wife Margarita Roman told PIX11 the shop keeper had owned the two buildings for about 13 years. She described him as a nice guy.

"He was a great person. He was a very good landlord," she said, "He was very caring , very giving, anything that you needed he would try his best to try and work it out."

Sources say the killing does not appear to be the result of a robbery. The victim had four adult children and was a devout Sephardic Jew.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. The investigation continues.
