Cop Injured In Wrong-Way, DWI-Related Crash

A wrong way crash on the Bronx River Parkway left a police officer and a New Rochelle man injured Monday morning.

According to authorities, the crash happened at around 4 a.m. on the northbound lanes of the parkway in Scarsdale. The police officer, identified as Gerard Cole, was traveling in his patrol car when he was struck head on by a BMW who was headed in the wrong direction.

Cole suffered a broken wrist in the crash, police said.

The driver of the BMW, identified by authorities as Nelson Escobar, 47, was issued a field sobriety test at the scene which he failed. Blood tests later determined Escobar was under the influence of alcohol.

No other injuries were reported. Charges are still pending.

The crash prompted authorities to close the northbound parkway for nearly 5 hours Monday morning, police said.
