The New York Yankees and New York Mets avoid arbitration by signing several pitchers to one-year deals.
The Mets signed right handed pitcher to a one-year contract worth approximately $4 million dollars. Big Pelf made $500,000 last year, going 15-9 with a 3.66 ERA in 33 starts and onerelief appearance. Pelfrey can reportedly earn bonuses worth $50,000 : $12,500 each for 200 and 205 innings, and $25,000 for 210. He pitched a career-high 204 innings last season. The Mets finished fourth in the NL East.
The New York Yankees have agreed to one-year deals with with right-handers Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain and left-handed reliever Boone Logan. Hughes will reportedly receive $2.7 million for the 2011 season. Chamberlain is expected to earn $1.4 million and Logan $1.2 million.
Hughes won a career-high 18 games last season with a 4.19 ERA over 29 starts and 31 appearances and was a first-time All-Star. Chamberlain went 3-4 with a 4.40 ERA and three saves. Logan made 51 appearances and finished with a 2-0 record and 2.93 ERA.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
