Police are investigating a homicide on West Rougues Path in Huntington Station. A man's body was discovered in the middle of the street after what cops suspect to have been a hit-and-run.
Witnesses say as of noon Sunday, the body remained in the street, uncovered for more than 8 hours, attracting crowds of onlookers. That's because detectives were reportedly unable to process the scene. Police declined to comment on the status of the crime scene; one investigator calling it "standard procedure."
Written reports suggest the delay may have been related to a new policy that removed a homicide detective from an early-morning standby shift.
Police Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick confirmed Sunday that man was "a victim of foul play." Investigators say it appears as if he was assaulted.
The body was found about a mile from the Cold Spring Harbor Long Island Rail Road station.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
