Cops say the chaotic scene started when a man and woman got into a fight over who the father is of their 9-year-old child.
Authorities say the 46-year-old man never believed the child was his and that ignited a fight. He beat the child's 42-year-old mother, then threatened to kill her 9- and 12-year-old sons.
Police say the man told the woman to call cops, that it would "all be taken care of then," hinting at a suicide by cop scenario. The woman called 911 at 1:49 a.m. Wednesday.
When police arrived to their 21st Street apartment, the man charged them, holding a box-cutter in each hand.
Cops tasered the man, but that didn't stop him. They then used pepper spray, but that didn't stop him either. Finally, police had to fire a round, hitting the suspect in the abdomen.
He is now in stable condition at Elmhurst Hospital. 21st Street was shut down for several hours between 29th Avenue and Astoria Boulevard.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
