4 Arrested For Torching Family's Car, Spraying Swastikas

ROCKY POINT, NY (PIX11) -- Four people are under arrest Thursday for setting a family’s car on fire and spray-painting swastikas and other hate symbols on the charred remains and surrounding area, police said.

Suffolk County police responded to a call at 8 Xylo Road in the Rocky Point area around 2:40 a.m. this morning, and found the torched 1991 Chevrolet Blazer and hateful vandalism.

Four people have been charged in the bizarre incident, and police now believe that there may be a longstanding, underlying dispute between the suspects and the residents of 8 Xylo Road.

Kyle Fox, 17, and Morgan Amenita, 18, both of 11 Xylo Road, Rocky Point; Gregory Scherer, 22, of 10 Salty Way, Shoreham; and John Cannet, 19, of 40 Vernon Ave., Mastic; are all charged with one count of Arson 3rd Degree and Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree.

A police investigation is ongoing.
