(HARLEM) - The normal sounds of a bustling Harlem block were broken up Thursday by the horrifying sound of screams and a crash that sent a vehicle careening off the road and onto the sidewalk.
At the start of the busy lunch hour a pickup truck jumped the curb after colliding with a Lincoln Town Car and slammmed into five people walking along a packed Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard.
An eyewitness told PIX 11 that there was one car going in one direction and the other going in another.
One of the victims was 89-year-old Leona White, a neighborhood resident who lived five blocks away. She was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Harlem Hospital.
As for the other victims, they are recovering at St. Luke's Hospital. No charges have been filed against either driver as the accident remains an open investigation.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
