Shortly after Willie Mays (left) was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979, he took a job as a greeter/spokesman for an Atlantic City casino. This didn't sit well with Major League Baseball Commissioner Bowie Kuhn, who made Mays "permanently ineligible" to participate in any capacity with the league. The baseball banishment was lifted in 1985 after Peter Ueberroth replaced Kuhn, who had retired.
