Protesting the closing of a South Side mental health clinic, patients, advocates and staff held a rally that continued through Saturday night.
Demonstrators took shelter in about 10 tents that remained outside the Woodlawn Mental Health Clinic despite severe thunderstorms in the area.
Its one of six clinics the city plans to close due to budget cuts.
Many say that will result in a reduction in vital mental health services on the South Side, and patients will have less access to services.
Mayor Emanuel has said closing the clinics will actually result in expanded services, by allowing the city to invest more in support for the uninsured.
23 people were arrested Thursday when they barricaded themselves inside the clinic.
Many of those people returned for the rally that began Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
They were joined by Congressman Danny Davis and members of the Occupy Chicago movement.
The rally is set to continue until April 30th.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
