The body of a missing North Barrington woman was discovered Thursday near Rand Rd in Wauconda.
62-year-old Maria Carlsen from North Barrington had not been seen or heard from since Monday afternoon. She was scheduled to take a limo to O'Hare and fly to Florida to meet her husband.
Her family contacted police and on Wednesday the Lake County sheriff's department alerted the media and launched a massive search for the woman.
Dozens of sheriff's deputies and a team of blood hounds searched the surrounding area. Her car was quickly found in the parking lot of a local pub in Wauconda.
Then late Thursday morning a woman contacted investigators that she had seen a woman walking alone, headed north on Route 12 near the pub. In response to that tip, police searched the side of the road. Just before 1 p.m., they found her body.
Lake County Sherriff Mark Curran says there was no sign of struggle or foul play, and that her body was found next to two bottles of prescription pills.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
