Kenner Announces Revised Storm Debris Collection Guidelines

Kenner garbage collection will resume regular collection schedule starting Friday, August 31st.  Due to the cancelled collection days resulting from Hurricane Isaac, there will be garbage collection on Labor Day, September 3, 2012, in those areas that have regularly scheduled Monday collection. Containerized regular household garbage such as food waste, diapers, cut grass should be placed curbside after 4:00 p.m. on the day prior to your regularly scheduled garbage collection days.

Instructions for Storm Debris Removal

  • On Saturday, September 1st, City of Kenner contractors will begin collecting storm-generated debris curbside.  More than one pass will be made through all neighborhoods to collect storm-generated debris. It is important that residents separate household garbage from storm debris at the curb as there will be separate trucks collecting storm debris, and quantities of storm debris must be carefully documented in order for Kenner to receive FEMA reimbursement.  Kenner strongly urges all residents to place regular household garbage and storm-related debris in separate piles by type (further explanation below).
  • Storm debris may be placed curbside for collection at any time.
  • Please do not place debris on or near to mailboxes or fire hydrants.
  • Debris should not be piled under low hanging wires or tree branches.
  • Do not park vehicles in front of debris.
  • Keep all debris bundled, but unbagged as much as feasibly possible.
  • Storm-generated debris should be separated as follows:
    • Trees, branches and other vegetative debris
    • Construction and demolition/building materials/fencing/roofing materials
    • Household Contents – furniture, carpet, etc.
    • Refrigerators and other large appliances.  Refrigerators MUST be emptied of all foods.

  • Mayor Yenni and Councilman Ben Zahn have arranged for Kenner residents to utilize the drop off site for storm debris free of charge:
