UPDATE: Shockey posted this statement on his Facebook page:
"Always will remember my time in New Orleans. What a city, you all welcomed me like one of your own, and we had a great run. Onto the next chapter, the Deep Unknown."
The Saints are cutting tight end Jeremy Shockey.
Shockey confirmed the move Tuesday afternoon in an interview with ESPN, saying "It's a business, I understand. I'll just go play hard for someone else. Whoever gets me it's going to be a steal."
Just before 4 p.m., Fox Sports reporter Jay Glazer sent a Tweet saying "I'm reporting the Saints are terminating the contract of TE Jeremy Shockey."
Saints #2 tight end Jimmy Graham is expected to replace Shockey, after Shockey missed three games during an injury-prone 2010 season.
Saints Coach Sean Payton, the former New York Giants offensive coordinator, brought Shockey to the Saints from the Giants as a first round draft pick for the 2008 season.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
