One of the hosts of The Ron and Fez Show on Sirius XM Radio offered to add $1,000 to the Crimestoppers reward for information leading to the arrest of the Andy Griffith statue vandal.

During the radio program Monday, host Fez Whatley told a representative from Mount Airy Crimestoppers he wanted to write the tipster organization a thousand-dollar check to help catch the person or people responsible for painting the statue green and red over the weekend

"I am a huge Andy Griffith fan. Grew up loving the show. Still watch the reruns on TV Land," Whatley said.

A worker from TV Land, which owns the statue, arrived late Thursday and removed most of the paint. He's scheduled to return Wednesday to complete the job and then wax the statue.

Tanya Jones, the executive director of the Surry County Arts Council, said she's confident the paint will be completely removed and the statue will be as good as new.

If you have information about the vandalism, call Crimestoppers at (336) 786-4000.
