Description: ALL WASHINGTON AREA HISPANIC MEDIA OUTLETS JOIN FORCES FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THE RELIEF EFFORTS IN HAITI
Famed Laurel Park Racecourse becomes venue for historic event to support the work of the American Red Cross in Haiti
LAUREL, MD - On Saturday, February 27th, the Washington Metropolitan Area's Hispanic media outlets will host the first ever dance benefit for Haiti from 4pm - 11pm at Laurel Park Racecourse. This will be the first time in Washington, DC that all Hispanic media outlets will come together to raise awareness in the community and support a unified cause. The joint effort is expected to draw a large number of attendees due to the shared vision and goals of all the Hispanic media and partnering organizations.
The benefit, dubbed "Hola Haiti: Baile Humanitario" (Hello Haiti: Humanitarian Ball), will be an opportunity for the Hispanic community to come out and meet their favorite media personalities, enjoy different types of music provided by the stations and donate money to a worthy cause. The participating media partners include, in alphabetical order: local television stations Telemundo and Univision; El Zol, La Ley, La Nueva, Radio America, Sensacion and VIVA from the radio; and the newspapers El Pregonero, El Tiempo Latino and Washington Hispanic. Each outlet will reach out to their listeners, viewers and readers to encourage their involvement in this event. It will be stressed to the community that the relief effort in Haiti is still a huge concern, even a month after the disaster.
The American Red Cross will be on hand to take donations from participants for those that would like to give more than the initial $5 entrance fee. All proceeds will benefit the Red Cross' international team that is fervently working to help save lives and rebuild all that was lost in the earthquake on January 12, 2010. The Red Cross continues to send food to those in need, provide potable water to over 300,000 people a day and distribute shelter items in the affected areas.
Laurel Park Racecourse is also partnering with the various media organizations by donating the venue, services and many prizes for the event. The racetrack is located on Route 198 and Racetrack Road in Laurel, MD. Any and all relevant information relating to "Hola Haiti: Baile Humanitario" and the unprecedented union of Hispanic media outlets will be available on the internet via www.holaciudad.com and www.laurelpark.com.
