Basketball and art museums aren't usually associated with each other. That will change on March 5. The Nelson Atkins Art Museum will put the original rules of basketball on display, as written by James Naismith. Naismith brought basketball to the University of Kansas in 1898 when he became the school's first physical education teacher.
Naismith's original rules were recently sold to a KU alum for $4.3 million. The museum's director predicts the rules will find a permanent home in Lawrence.
"Everything indicates that their place will be in Lawrence next to this incredible arena that already has a museum for sports," said Nelson CEO Julian Zugazagoitia.
