New Kent Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction hired as Gloucester principal

NEW KENT – New Kent County Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction Nate Collins has been hired as the Gloucester High School principal.

"I had a really strong desire to return to high school principalship," Collins said in a phone interview with the Daily Press.  "I enjoy the direct interaction with the students, teachers, and families."

The Gloucester School Board announced on June 10 that Collins would fill the vacant principal position on July 1.

Collins has 13 years of experience in education and is currently serving as the director of curriculum and instruction at New Kent County Public Schools. He was previously director of secondary instruction at New Kent.

Prior to that he served as a principal, assistant principal, and teacher in Augusta County.

Collins received his bachelor's degree from the College of William and Mary in 1994 and his master's degree from the University of Virginia in 2002. He is currently working on his doctorate degree, which he is expected to receive from Virginia Tech in 2015.

Collins said so far he has received a warm welcome from the Gloucester community, which affirmed his decision to join the school division.

"Gloucester has a strong foundation and proud tradition," Collins said. "It's a place I think I can really make a difference."
