Taqueria Ameca Jalisco( April 22, 2013 )
Where: 4400 S. Orange Blossom Trail, Orlando; 3558 S Orange Ave, Orlando
The lowdown: When you get to the lively block of South Orange Blossom Trail that's home to Taqueria Ameca Jalisco, you may be tempted to drive on by. Sure, maybe the parking lot and sidewalk have the occasional entrepreneurial ladies working the street, and there may be a few folks taking, well, spontaneous naps nearby. Ignore all of that and join the other hard-working people who frequent this Mexican eatery for lunch. Taqueria Ameca Jalisco is packed from 11:30 a.m. on, and there's a good reason why. It serves up authentic Mexican tacos (seafood, pork, beef, chicken, chorizo) all for $1 each. There is no menu. The daily selections are written on a white board overhead. So you may need to bone up on your Spanish if your biggest adventure of late is the Taco Bell drive-through.
