Did someone mention beer?
Why, yes, it's the good folks at Bon Beer Voyage, a Boynton Beach-based specialty tour company for craft-beer enthusiasts. The company is now running an early booking special for its second St. Augustine Weekend Beer Safari, slated for Sept. 21-23 in the nation's oldest city.
Bon Beer Voyage was created for the beer enthusiast who also enjoys travel. The company focuses on weekend and weeklong tours for small groups with an emphasis on destinations known for craft-beer production.
The St. Augustine tour will include brewery visits and tastings at A1A Ale Works and Mile Marker Brewing, beer-paired meals prepared by some of the area's noteworthy chefs, a private factory tour of Whetstone Chocolates — with a beer-paired chocolate sampling — and a private trolley tour of the famous historic district.
You need transportation to and from St. Augustine, but Beer Bon Voyage pretty much handles it from there.
"We are especially excited to bring the group to Mile Marker Brewing because they have a cool tasting room and very tasty beer," said Ruth Berman, Bon Beer's CEO and BBB, the latter short for Brains Beyond the Beer. "They were just opening last year during our tour, so they are brand-new to this itinerary."
Early booking rates are $477 per person based on double occupancy and $602 per person based on single occupancy. If this sounds like your kind of excursion, it's good to book in advance because the tour limits the number of participants.
The rate includes a two-night hotel stay with breakfast, parking and Wi-Fi, the private tours mentioned above, two gourmet beer-paired dinners, a beer-paired lunch and weekend trolley passes. That's Cadillac-style compared with the self-guided pub crawl I embarked on with friends a few years ago.
And the company doesn't limit its destinations to the Sunshine State.
Bon Beer Voyage's upcoming tours include a weeklong "beercation" cruise through Belgium and France in October.
