The Queen Mary in Long Beach embraces its British lineage by hosting the Christ Church Cathedral Choir from the famed 12th century church in Oxford, England. The choir will perform a pre-Easter concert April 1 in the Queen's Lounge -- and it's free.

The deal: The choir of 12 men, 16 boys and two organists has a history that dates back 500 years. Cardinal Wolsey appointed its first director, John Taverner, in 1526. Today choral conductor Stephen Darlington fills that role for the singers who perform around the world. The Long Beach concert will feature classical and sacred music in keeping with the season of Lent.

When: The event takes place at 7 p.m. April 1 only. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Details: Seating for the one-hour concert is limited to the first 300 people who sign up. It will be held in the Queen's Lounge, an elegant Art Deco room that served as the first-class lounge on the 1936 ocean liner. Parking at the Queen Mary costs $15.
