Disney Cruise Line" href="http://www.vacationstarter.com/topic/economy-business-finance/tourism-leisure-industry/disney-cruise-line-ORCRP017383.topic">Disney Cruise Line today made official what many had predicted in recent weeks: The line will be basing one of its ships at the port of Miami. The other big news out of the 2013 cruise announcement was the line's plans to return to Europe.
The line will continue to sail out of Port Canaveral with its two newest ships, the Disney Dream, which debuted in 2010 and the Disney Fantasy set to debut in March of this year. Those two ships sail a variety of Bahamas and eastern and western Caribbean itineraries.
The news today was for the line's two older ships, the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. The Disney Magic will be heading to Europe in summer 2013 while the Disney Wonder, currently based on the west coast, will be heading to Miami at the end of 2012.
PortMiami, as it now bills itself, has been on a bit of a roll lately attracting new cruise service. Disney's Miami-bound cruise ship follows similar announcements from Regent Seven Seas, MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises.
The first cruise for the Wonder will be Dec. 23, offering one six-night and one seven-night Caribbean cruise before settling into regular four- and five-night cruises from Miami to the Bahamas and western Caribbean. Those sailings will run from Jan. 5 to May 2, 2013 and will include stops at locations such as Cozumel, Mexico, Grand Cayman, Key West, Nassau and Disney's private Bahamam island, Castaway Cay.
