Norwegian Cruise Line today announced where their newest ship, the Norwegian Breakaway, will be sailing for its inaugural winter season in 2013.
The 4,000-passenger ship currently under construction in Germany will be based year-round at the port of New York. It will follow a previously announced summer season of seven-day voyages to Bermuda with a winter season of itineraries headed to both the Bahamas and Florida as well as some southern Caribbean voyages.
The Breakaway's seven-day Bahamas and Florida cruises will depart on Sundays and include stops in Nassau, Bahamas as well as NCL's private Bahaman island, Great Stirrup Cay. The line will also travel to Port Canaveral with access to Orlando's theme parks, the Space Coast and area beaches. The cruise features three days at sea. These sailings run through April 27, 2014.
The ship's 12-day southern Caribbean cruises include stops in San Juan, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Philipsburg, St. Maarten, Castries, St. Lucia, Bridgetown, Barbados and Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis as well as five days at sea.
Currently under construction at Meyer Werft shipyards in Papenburg, Germany, the Breakaway will be 144,017 gross tons and is scheduled for delivery in April 2013. It's the first of two ships on order by NCL with the second, the Norwegian Getaway slated for a spring 2014 delivery.
The Breakaway will be largest year-round cruise ship based in New York City. It's expected to bring 140,000 embarking passengers into New York City over two years.
