The Richard Petty Driving Experience has been growing its portfolio of offerings across Florida this year. Having run successfully at the Walt Disney World speedway since 2012, the company has expanded its Junior Ride-Along program to both Daytona International Speedway as well as Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina.
The Junior Ride-Along program allows kids ages 6-13 and at least 48 inches tall to strap into a specially-designed seat and tear around the track at speeds near 120 mph alongside a professional driving instructor.
My son Morgan, who is 6 and just over 48 inches tall took a spin at the Disney track to get a taste of the experience.
When asked at how fast he thought he was going, he said, "Well it wasn't all blurry like i thought it would be, but it was fast."
His favorite part?
"When my head was leaning to one side."
The company partnered with The Joie of Seating, a company founded by NASCAR driver Randy LaJoie, which built the custom-fitted aluminum racing seats with built-in shoulder and head protection and a five-point safety harness that's the same as used by NASCAR drivers. They've modified three cars in their stable of ride-along vehicles that are run at more than 20 tracks around the U.S., with one car at each of the three tracks.
Prices at Charlotte and Disney are $59 for three laps, while prices at Daytona are $69.
