If you prefer cross-country skiing, head to White Grass XC. Built on an abandoned downhill ski area, the resort offers 50 km of trails at the Cabin Mountain range of West Virginia's High Alleghenies. It prides itself on its green practices such as "snow farming," which uses snowfences and driftlines to catch more snowfall. The site has an organic café, and the web site boasts that its electric bill averages under $2 per day.
