Snowshoe is a sprawling four-season resort with skiing, snowboarding, golfing, mountain biking and more. In addition to its 60 trails, there are plenty of restaurants and more than 30 housing options for the crowds that flood the resort during peak season, Jan. 2-March 9.

Sharp's Historic Bed and Breakfast: Restored 1912 mansion has five rooms off Route 219 a few miles south of Route 66, Slatyfork.
