Name: Eagle Creek Emerson Carry-All
What it is: A lightweight ergonomic duffel-style carry-on bag that can be hoisted with a shoulder strap or toted. The bag's Smart Travel Security organization features interior cellphone and electronics pockets and a zippered pocket that's great for stowing a wallet and similar valuables. The main section and the padded laptop compartment, which can hold a 17-inch laptop, close with a security zipper. There are interior pockets for electronic chargers and cords, zippered front and back pockets and a back slip panel to stack the bag on top of rolling luggage. The 50-inch cross-body shoulder strap is removable. The bag measures 171/2 by 12 by 51/2 inches and weighs 2 pounds, 7 ounces. Available in black, red, purple and gray.
The good: This bag's lightweight, clever design makes it a great companion. I've used it to pack clothes and technology. It easily holds my MacBook Pro, iPad, SLR camera with a spare lens, and an underwater camera. The back slip panel lets me slide the Emerson over my rolling carry-on's handle. One of my favorite features is that the bag fits easily under a plane seat, so there's no risk of an extra charge. Emerson even includes an inside pouch I can use for my reusable water bottle or an umbrella.
The bad: I wish I could tuck the two tote handles into the bag when I'm just using the shoulder strap.
