Ocean City wants people to plant more trees.
The town has announced a $25 rebate to match a Marylanders Plant Trees state coupon for each tree planted in its area.
The 2009 state program gives out coupons for $25 off the purchase of a tree at participating nurseries; Ocean City's rebate would make that $50.
Marylanders Plant Trees surpassed its goal of 100,000 new trees by 2013, according to its website. The state coupon initiative is funded through a settlement against a major power generator for Clean Air Act violations and contributions from tree vendors.
"We are excited to not only promote the state's program but also provide Town of Ocean City residents and property owners a special rebate for participating," Ocean City's environmental engineer, Gail Blazer, said in a statement.
To receive the rebate, use the state coupon to buy a tree, plant it in Ocean City, take a picture of it and send it along with the receipt to the Engineering Department, at 301 Baltimore Ave, Ocean City, MD 21842.
The coupon and the Maryland Plant Trees offer are only valid for trees on the Marylanders Plant Trees list, located at trees.maryland.gov/pickatree.asp.
The offer is only valid for trees purchased in 2014, with a maximum of two rebates per property. For more information, contact email firstname.lastname@example.org.
