Pregnant woman charged in Ocean City beach brawl

Abusive Behavior

The pregnant woman who went into labor after a scuffle with police in Ocean City last weekend has been charged with second-degree assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstructing law enforcement.

Dalima Ekundayo Ibironke Palmer, 24, faces the charges in connection with a disturbance on the beach last Sunday afternoon involving several people. Ocean City Police said she was part of a fight that began when a lifeguard approached a disorderly group to ask them to tone it down and one of the men in the group responded with threats.

Police called to the area of the beach near North Division Street said Abdul Kargbo, 25, of Woodbridge, Va., yelled and cursed at officers and then attempted to walk away. When police tried to arrest Kargbo, others in his group began to "act in a threatening manner."

As the incident unfolded, police said a large crowd gathered leading officers to call for back up. According to Lindsay O'Neal, a police spokeswoman, Palmer assaulted one of the officers on the beach during the melee that broke out.

Members of the group began recording the confrontation and Palmer is seen on the cell phone video being tackled by Ocean City Police. She went into labor after the incident and ended up having an emergency C-section, said O'Neal.

In addition to Palmer, three men were charged in the altercation.
