Restaurant and Catering Industry

Ocean City's first Chick-fil-A doesn't open until Thursday at 6 a.m., but don't be surprised if you see folks start lining up late Tuesday night at 12901 Ocean Gateway Highway.

Sure, the chicken is good, but Chick-fil-A is giving a year's supply of it to the first 100 adults in line on grand opening morning.

Chick-fil-A held its first "First 100 Celebration" in Arizona in 2003, and has since given away more than $16 million in free food at 600 grand openings. Customers camp out with couches, TVs, computers and other gear.

The line officially opens at 6 a.m. on Wednesday with the free meal cards being awarded Thursday, June 7, sometime between 6 a.m. and 6:10 a.m. The restaurant will open for business immediately thereafter. If there are more than 100 people by 6 a.m. on Wednesday, all 100 spots will be determined by raffle.

Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A, Inc. is the nation’s second-largest quick-service chicken restaurant chain ( with 1,620 restaurants in 39 states and Washington D.C. The Ocean City location is one of 96 new locations the company plans to open in 2012.
