The Dough Roller, the Ocean City family favorite, opened a branch of its pizza restaurant in Rockville over the weekend.
The location in King Farms Village Center is operated by Gary Gibbs, son of The Dough Roller Restaurants founder.
Gibbs, who lives in Washington, said the restaurant's location allows The Dough Roller to be close to the many fans who are familiar with it from their trips to Ocean City.
"We found a great space in a great neighborhood and decided to take a shot at it," said Gibbs.
The new space is about 2,000 square feet and seats about 50 compared to the more than 200 the restaurant usually serves in Ocean City.
"It's the same pizza [and] some of the breakfast, a lot of the kids menu," Gibbs said. "We trimmed the menu down for the much smaller space."
He said the family-run restaurant business, voted the best for family dining in The Sun's recent "Best of OC" awards, chose to open a smaller eatery because it's easier to manage. Previously Dough Roller had a branch in Crofton for many years, but that restaurant closed in 2003.
While Gibbs said there are no plans to open other branches of The Dough Roller right now -"We've only been open four days!" - his family doesn't completely rule that out.
"We're very excited to be doing something year-round," Gibbs said. "We're not under the pressure of summer."Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
