Two Virginia men visiting Ocean City were able to rescue two young women who became distressed while swimming in the area of 90th Street and the beach last Friday.
Christopher Bourdeau, 39, of Vienna, Va., and Robert Miller, 43, of Falls Church, Va., were able to help two of three swimmers who got into trouble after lifeguards were no longer on duty, Ocean City Police said.
Police identified the swimmers as a 21-year-old female from Bowie, a 19-year-old female from Woodstock, and a 20-year-old female from Silver Spring. All three were transported to Atlantic General Hospital.
Two of the women have since been released. The third swimmer went into cardiac arrest and was still listed in critical condition on Tuesday, officials said.
Ocean City Police warn visitors and residents against swimming in the ocean when a lifeguard is not on duty: "leave their feet in the sand, if a lifeguard is not in the stand."
