Shopping in O.C.? Try these places on for size

Okay, so you're in Ocean City and you decide to do some shopping to unwind. If you're looking for some cheap souvenirs, there is nothing wrong with going to your nearest beach-item supermart. Or if you want the mall experience, there's always the recently renovated Tanger Outlets in West Ocean City.

But, if you are looking for something beachy to add to your regular wardrobe, here are some of our picks for the best clothes by the beach.

Raggamuffin, 2401 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, 410-289-3311. This place is really special. For a tiny store, they manage to pack in as much color and whimsy as possible. They sell women's clothing and accessories, including purses and perfumes. The store is full of bright colors and unique jewelry (like pendant necklaces with compasses and lockets). Manager Jessica Stalter said they get most of their clothes from West Coast designers, and most of their jewelry from New York. She added that they also sell some handmade fair trade goods, including belts from Peru.

South Moon Under, 8019 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, 410-524-4567. This store boasts some fancy brands; Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren and Marc Jacobs among them. They sell men's and women's clothing, including bathing suits. They also have a section for some home decor and novelty items, as well as some make-up. The clothing is a bit pricey, but there is a clearance section upstairs.

K-Coast Surf Shop, 3505 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, 410-524-8500. Surf shops can also be good places to find clothes by the beach. Many sell men's and women's clothing and swimsuits, usually from major surf brands like Billabong, Hurley, Volcom and O'Neill. If you want to embrace your inner surfer, you can also try Quiet Storm on the boardwalk and Chauncey's Surf Shop on Coastal Highway.
